Magnetic susceptibility measurements
Magnetic susceptibility describes the magnetizability of a material when it is exposed to an applied magnetic field. While magnetic susceptibility measurements can under circumstances be used to detect cultural layers, they can as well be helpful in investigating the cause of anomalies observed in magnetic prospection data. With a magnetic susceptibility meter, sometimes as well called Kappameter, it is possible to determine the magnetic susceptibility of a sediment, rock or outcrop. Measurements can be conducted directly in the field or in the laboratory using soil samples.
